Jacob Nathan is originally from the Greater Cleveland Area, where he would often be found with camera in hand throughout his adolescence. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Teaching at Bard College, where, in between studies of Isabel Allende, Gabriel García Marquez, and Pablo Neruda, they maintain their photographic pursuit of the unnoticed intimate moments around us. His influences include Mark Cohen, Justine Kurland, Elliott Erwitt, and Alberto Korda.
Are we lost or are we still finding ourselves? The bridge between adolescence and adulthood is beautiful and messy and terrifying. Nathan’s photographic work begins at the crossroads where the written word is no longer sufficient to capture the transient essence of youth. His work comprises slices of meaning made between skinned knees and studious cups of coffee.
